      The Blue Bard

I was scrolling through your cool miniature gallery and noticed the mini for the character Rain and her paint job (which is very nice). Is she the eponymous Blue Bard?

Very nice! I have that mini but haven't painted her yet. My life goal is to someday be able to afford the shipping costs for Hasslefree and Otherworld minis. And cool dungeon tiles.

Yeah. Hasslefree and Otherworld are amazing minis. With holiday time off I hope to paint some more this month. Very fun that you found her. Rain was one of the few NPCs that didn't die in the early years. When I started playing again, I broke her back out b/c she was an elf and it made sense she'd still be around several hundred years later.

I've been saying that for far too many breaks over the past year+! I think it's been at least a full year since I painted in earnest, something I am going to fix over the holidays this year! =)

      Indeed, and will do!

WRT your miniatures paints and inks/washes selections, I'd love to get some guidance from you on how you use them: your minis look great, and while I do a little layering in my work with them, inks/washes are not a technique I've mastered by any means.

Also happy to hear about your processes on priming (perhaps differences in resin vs. metals too---resin minis are definitely a new medium for me!) and sealing too! =)

If I wrote a whole blog post or a series of posts it wouldn't begin to touch on this topic!

I do recommend watching you tube for painting tips. There are so many great tutorials out there for glazing, washes, drybrush, loaded brush...too many techniques to even gloss here.

You can use inks like washes or mix them. Pigments are another way to go.

My advice is to buy Vallejo or Army Painter white primer in a spray can. The extra money on primer is worth it because there is a big difference in quality of the base coat...and make sure to shake the can for a min of 2 min vigorously prior to spraying.

I have a friend who is pro-level mini painter...and he primes in black but I use white because I like brighter colors.

The key to resins is to make sure they are clean. I use dawn, warm water and a soft toothbrush.

      Metals are easy.

Best paints IMO are Andrea. Andrea Inks are great too. Scale Color is bad ass. AK interactive pigments and fixer are amazing. Youtube will show you miracles with them.

I use matte spray to seal most of the time, but sometimes if I know the mini won't be used much, I don't bother with sealer.

      Happy painting!
